I can't register for exams. What can I do?

The most common reasons why exam registration does not work are as follows:

  • Exam details are incorrect (number, title, date).
  • The exam has not yet been created or released for online registration.
  • Deadlines for the examination have passed. In this case, the exam no longer appears in the system or the registration button is hidden.
  • The exam does not yet have a date and therefore does not appear in the system.

Solution: Please contact the student office of your department and describe the problem.

I can't find dates for my examination/course and therefore can't register. What can I do?

This problem frequently occurs with Language Center courses, so we'll base the following solutions on these cases. Generally, however, it applies to all cases where students have attempted to register for an exam using the course number or the "Courses" application. Course numbers are not the same as examination numbers.

Registering via "Exam Dates"

Select the organization (in our example here, the Chemistry depratment). Click on the application "Exam dates". Search for your exam an click on the button "Register".

Search for your exam an click on the button "Register".

Now you can register for the exam.

Registering via "Courses"

Click on "Courses" on the business card of the organization:

Search for the course and click on the corresponding link in the "SPO C/E/O" column as soon as the link appears (screenshot 2), otherwise continue with "Registerig via Exam Dates"

    • Under "Position within curricula", two important pieces of information appear:
      • confirmation that the course has been assigned to the curriculum
      • information on whether an examination date is available.
    • If a green "P" is shown, an examination date is available. Click on the green "P" to register.

Tipp

Note: If the exam appears at more than one point in the curriculum, it is important to click on the correct "P" before beginning the registration process. The precise assignment in the curriculum is displayed by clicking on the "…" button.

When registering for exams (within the registration period), the following message appeared for all courses: "No examination dates entered".

This problem frequently occurs with Language Center courses, so we'll base the following solutions on these cases. Generally, however, it applies to all cases where students have attempted to register for an exam using the course number or the "Course Management" application. Course numbers are not the same as examination numbers.

Why do I get an error message when registering for an exam?

One of the following error messages is displayed:

  • "Registration for the above examination date was NOT possible: results calculation is not activated for this curriculum." . . .“
  • "Registration for the above examination date was NOT possible: examination registration is not possible if you have not passed the course." . .“
  • "Registration for the above examination date was NOT possible: Already registered: at org. TUXXX, date: …“

Reasons for the error

  • In the case of the first error message, the registration system checks whether the rules/requirements that apply to the curriculum have been fulfilled. If the "results calculation" is not activated, registration cannot be completed, which is why the error message appears.
  • In the case of the second error message, negative results on other examinations do not allow the user to register for the desired exam.
  • In the third case, the exam for which you've registered has most likely not yet been recorded in TUMonline. Attempting to sign up for a make-up test therefore results in an error message.

I don't see my grades or grade report in TUMonline. What can I do?

The exam has not yet been "finalized" or the results have not yet been "published".

Grades are reported according to the following procedure: the examiner records the grades and the academic department in charge of the student’s program records the exam as "finalized". From this point on, the grades are visible in the grade report or through the "exam results" application. In the meantime, the grades are listed as "tentative".

It is possible, however, to "publish" the grades; they will then be displayed in the "exam results" application, but only with a status of "tentative".

Solution: Please contact the student office of your department and describe the problem.
