Abstract

The following paper proposes the use of video games as a way to study information flow via graph structures in multi-agent systems. We propose that video games stand to benefit from the inclusion of techniques from the field of distributed multi-agent communication and that approaches used in physical systems can be demonstrated and tested within video games. To model these behaviors, graphs are used to model relationships and communication between agents. To illustrate these proposals, a prototype video game is presented after which fields of interest for the video game such as static vs. dynamic communication graphs, trust in multi-agent systems, and communication time are explored in further detail. The findings gathered from analyzing this video game can be used to improve both video games as well as physical systems that are reliant on multi-agent communication. However, specific techniques and implementations used in the game are rather simple and act as a demonstration of concepts presented. To further gather information about the behavior of multi-agent systems in video games, other implementations and algorithms must be swapped in for current systems to gather a better understanding of their specific benefits and drawbacks.
