In this study, we have surveyed users of the language learning service Duolingo to find out about their opinion on game elements within the service. First, we asked the users which features in Duolingo they consider to be game elements by utilizing an existing framework for gamification. Secondly, we asked them about their satisfaction with certain features that we consider game elements. The first part results in a mapping of features in Duolingo to an existing framework for gamification, as seen by the users. The second part gives a more detailed view on which game elements are liked by the users and their importance for future usage of the service. These contributions could help to paint a clearer picture of the effects of specific game elements within gamification in the example of an existing gamified service.
