Abstract

Virtual Reality (VR) is a computer-generated environment with real-world scenes and objects, which makes the user feel immersed. This is perceived via a device called a headset or helmet for Virtual Reality. We can use virtual reality to place ourselves in video games as if we were one of the characters, learn how to perform heart surgery, and improve the quality of sports training to improve performance. Young people are normally associated with cutting-edge technology, but an odd group of early adopters is emerging: the elderly. VR is being used to improve the lives of senior folks all around the world by reducing loneliness, increasing mental health, and transporting them to far-flung locations without leaving their homes. In this thesis, a travel application has been implemented after knowing and exploring the issues that the elderly face, because of using new technology, and the needs of the elderly through related works. Furthermore, some earlier work on this topic is studied to get the necessary understanding. The application was implemented to give a real and approachable means for the elderly to have a positive experience without being overwhelmed by technology. An online survey evaluation was created and distributed to Facebook groups and online forums for elderly people to evaluate the application because a real-life evaluation is not possible due to the pandemic.
