Abstract

3D reconstruction plays an important role in computer vision. It is a core technology of such fields as computer graphics and animation, medical imaging, augmented and virtual reality, etc. In order to perform a 3D reconstruction, passive and active methods can be employed. The latter include the technology called structured light, which is used to acquire the depth map. This research describes a feasibility study covering the integration of a structured light based 3D scanner called Structure Sensor by Occipital into an open system. It also provides an evaluation of the point clouds obtained using Structure Sensor and Structure SDK.
