Abstract

Socializing is an important part of live to keep mentally and physically healthy, especially for seniors. To prevent this social application were developed, where seniors can interact and socialize with other people without having to rely on their physical health and locational restrictions like quarantine. In this thesis a Japanese VR supermarket was developed, where seniors could interact with other seniors inside VR to communicate and socialize. The main purpose was the communication between seniors, wherfore it was most important to keep cybersickness low and also usability and immersion high. After the experiment, it was clear that the application could be used as a social communication tool, as they could communicate freely inside the application with each other and could enjoy the experience. However some problems appeared with recognizing gestures for some of the users.
