ADF (Einzelblatteinzug) scanner

There is a new ADF (Einzelblatteinzug) scanner in the left CIP room (1161). You just enter your email address, press start and a PDF version of your document is sent to you via email.

 

If you prefer to use the flatbed scanner also located in that room, here are some detailed instructions:

Documents (save as PDF file)

Use this procedure if you want to scan one or more documents and save them as a PDF file.

  1. Place the document in the scanner.

  2. Log into the workstation next to the scanner.

  3. Click on Applications->Graphics->XSane Image Scanner. (Click on Ok when asked to select a scanner device.)

  4. Select Target: Save. (see screenshot)

  5. Click on the disk icon and specify where the document should be saved. Make sure you enter the full filename with extension (i.e. filename.pdf)!

  6. Adjust the scanner settings to your needs. We recommend using resolution: 300 and color mode: Gray8 for normal documents.

  7. Click on Acquire preview.

  8. Select the area you want to scan in the preview window.

  9. Click on Scan.

  10. Repeat the process starting from step 5 for further documents.

Images

Use this procedure if you want to scan one or more images and save them in an image file format (e.g. JPEG, PNG, GIF).

  1. Place the image/document in the scanner.

  2. Log into the workstation next to the scanner.

  3. Click on Applications->Graphics->GIMP Image Editor.

  4. In the GIMP toolbox window click on File->Acquire->XSane->Device dialog.... (Click on Ok when asked to select a scanner device.)

  5. Adjust the scanner settings to your needs. (see screenshot) We recommend using resolution: 300 and color mode: Color24 for normal images and photos.

  6. Click on Acquire preview.

  7. Select the area you want to scan in the preview window.

  8. Click on Scan.

  9. The scanned document opens in a new window. You can edit, save and print it. Our image manipulation program is very powerful but a litte difficult to use at first. Read the tutorials if you need to make complex modifications to your picture.

  10. Repeat the process starting from step 6 for further documents.
