Abstract

Society faces various issues with elderly wellbeing, both physical and mental. With aging come issues in mobility and injury recovery, which results in lower quality of life and depression. Short-term challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic drastically increase dangers, and in the long term, as the german population ages and the elderly make up an increasing part of the general public, further problems will occur. This bachelor’s thesis seeks to improve senior’s mental wellbeing by expanding on the master’s thesis by George Nassif, who developed an application enabling users to travel to different, self-selected locations using the Oculus Quest VR Headset. In this work I seek to expand on the project in different areas. First, a prestudy is conducted via an online questionaire assessing both the application itself and different approaches to improve it. Following the prestudy, the user interface is improved by both optimizing the previous system and adding a new three-dimensional menu. The multiplayer aspect is also expanded upon by improving the other players appearance. With Augmented Virtuality an entirely new feature is created, connecting the users to the outside world. To assess improvements, another study is conducted online.
