This page collects the relevant information you need after admission to Computational Mechanics.

After Admission

Upon receiving an admission letter, please log in to your TUMonline account, accept the study place and take care of the remaining modalities for the enrollment (required documents in hard copies). The documents are listed in your account.

Relevant deadlines as well as the beginning dates of the semesters and lectures (incl. semester breaks) are published on www.tum.de/en/studies/application/dates-and-deadlines/dates-periods-and-deadlines/.

For questions about the status of your enrollment, please check your TUMonline applicant account. For further questions, please directly contact the TUM Center for Study and Teaching (e-mail: studium@tum.de).

Note for visa application: In case you do not have a proof of German language proficiency yet, the admission letter will state the following: "This admission is only valid if the following requirements are fulfilled.* Additional Requirement: [VK] Requirement Proof of Proficiency in German. You must have successfully completed the proof of German language proficiency until the end of the second semester of your study program Master." This does not mean that the admission is conditional You are unconditionally admitted to the program, you only have to provide the proof of German language proficiency until the end of the second semester. Therefore, you can use this document for visa application.

Tuition fees

All students must pay basic tuition fees for the students' union (in the order of < 100 €).

A discounted public transport ticket is available for students. For current regulations and rates, check https://www.tum.de/en/studies/during-your-studies/mobility-at-campus as well as https://www.mvg.de/tickets-tarife/abonnement/deutschlandticket_29euro.html#.

For up-to-date information about the fees at TUM, please refer to https://www.tum.de/en/studies/fees-and-financial-aid/. For COME students, the regulations for "Students at Campus Munich, Garching, Weihenstephan and TUM Asia" apply.

Important: For International Students

Further tuition fees apply to students from non-EU countries. You can find information, as well as the current regulations, at https://www.tum.de/en/studies/fees/tuition.

German Language Requirement

TUM requires the proof of basic German knowledge upon matriculation.

If you haven't submitted a certificate upon matriculation, you can do so until the end of the second semester, as stated on your acceptance letter.

The deadline is very strict and cannot be altered by us, so please make sure you have attended a course and passed a test by the end of your second semester.

How to find accomodation & Living in Munich

In general, the housing market in Munich is quite tense.

Public student housing is offered by Studentenwerk (limited availability). Information can be found at https://www.studentenwerk-muenchen.de/en/accommodation/.

TUMonline & Moodle

TUMonline

TUMonline is TUM's campus management software, which you already know from your application. Through TUMonline, you can manage and organize your studies at TUM.

Please have a look on the information page for further details. This Wiki entry collects all the manuals for students using TUMonline.

Moodle

Moodle is TUM's e-learning platform. Lecturerers will usually provide their supporting material, such as lecture notes or task sheets via moodle.

You can login to moodle via your TUM-mail-address and TUMonline password. Registration for courses is automatically transferred from TUMonline.

Campus Maps & Roomfinder

Almost all regular courses taught in CoMe take place on Munich main campus. Only selected electives and/or individual electives will take place on Garching campus.

Maps of TUM's buildings can be found on the maps and plans page. If you are looking for a apecific room, you can use TUM's roomfinder.

The room numbers at TUM have four digits:

• the first digit represents the floor,
• the second digit the building,
• the third and fourth digits denote the room number.

Building numbers on the north site are prefixed with an “N”.

Course & Exam Registration

Course and Exam registration are done through our portal TUMonline, see above. All details will be explained during the welCoMe address.

It is sufficient to register for the first semester courses at this point. Registration to the courses offered during the welCoMe week can be found below.

If you want to go ahead and register anyway you are welcome to do so. Here is some frequently requested information for you:

• Course and exam registration are decoupled. You can join a course, but not register for the exam. Exam registration usually opens during the lecture time, so there is plenty of time for you to decide on whether to participate in the exam or not.
• Course registration in TUMonline gives you access to the course material on moodle.
• There is no fee for registering to courses.
• The best way to register for courses in TUMonline is through the Study Plan/Curriculum functionality. This way you'll always find the right course.

Fit for TUM

Fit for TUM is a service fair for newcomer students at TUM. It usually takes place in the same week as the welCoMe week.

Introduction to Programming in C++ & WelCoMe Week

A week before the official semester start, we offer an extensive introduction week that combines technical training and social activities.

The welCoMe-week for the intake in 2023 will be from 9 to 13 October 2023. The lecture period will start on 16 October 2023.

Welcome Address

The first meeting on Monday morning (9 October 2023) is the Welcome Address for all new CoMe students. You will receive information about TUM, the School of Engineering and Design and your study program.

We will also guide you through all the technical details around your studies.

Introduction to Programming in C++

This course will give you a comprehensive introduction into programming in C++ and will cover most of the introduction week.

Campus Tour

In order to get to know the premises on TUM's main campus, we offer a campus tour guided by CoMe students from the higher semesters.

The tour will take place after the welCoMe-address on Monday morning.

Library Tour

TUM's library offers a one hour introduction to their premsises and services.

The library tour will take place in presence after the campus tour. No registration is required.

Potluck Dinner

The potluck dinner is an informal meeting for us to get to get to know each other. Everybody is kindly asked to bring some food from his or her home country. This way we'll have a large variety of different cuisines to share. We'll provide drinks and dishes/cutlery.

City Tour

We invite you to join a Munich city tour on Friday evening. The tour will take you from TUM main campus to the inner city, where we will end on Marienplatz.

• Time: 5 - 7 pm
• Meeting point: in front of Mensa Arcisstraße

Lecture Start

The regular semester starts after the CoMe-introduction week. Please make sure you're registered to all the compulsory courses in TUMonline and that you have access to all the lecture content via moodle.

CSE Primer

Our sister program offers a separate introduction to various tools such as Matalb, Linux, Git and C++. 

You are free to join in the first regular week of the semester from 16 October onwards.
