Frequently asked questions

Q: I have a course that can be part of more than one module group and the grade is currently in the wrong group in my TUMOnline account. How do I change this?

A: Ms. Christina Trenn (trenn@in.tum.de) from the Office of Academic Affairs can assign modules to the right module group.

Q: How is the final grade computed?

A: The overall grade will be calculated as the weighted average of all modules including the thesis. The grade weights of the individual modules correspond to the credits awarded. §17 (5) TUM GENERAL ACADEMIC AND EXAMINATION REGULATIONS (APSO)

Q: I have more modules completed than necessary / The number of ECTS exceeds the number of required ECTS. How will the grade be computed?

If a student has successfully completed more elective modules than required, the best examination results will be counted towards the overall grade, unless the student notifies the Examination Committee which examination results should be counted for the final grade instead (contact Ms. Christina Trenn from the Office of Academic Affairs.). §17 (5) TUM GENERAL ACADEMIC AND EXAMINATION REGULATIONS (APSO)

Q: I want Credits from my Bachelor at TUM to be recognized.

A: Only additional courses that did not count towards your Bachelor degree and were no requirement for the application to BMC can be recognized! The process is explained here. Use the Application for Recognition form ("Antrag auf Anerkennung") in the Download section.

Directly hand in the application through the Infopoint or mail it to Verena Wimmer by TUM internal mail.

Q: I changed by Master program (e.g. from Robotics to BMC) at TUM and want Credits to be recognized.

A: The process is explained here. Use the Application for Recognition form (" Antrag auf Anerkennung von (Zusatz-)Leistungen") in the Download section. No transcripts or module descriptions are required, since the courses and module numbers are identical.

Q: I changed by Master program (e.g. from Robotics to BMC) from another university and want Credits to be recognized.

A: This requires individual steps. Please schedule an appointment with the BMC Coordination Team and include a filled Application for Recognition form ("Antrag auf Anerkennung") in the Download section. Provide a transcript with the grade and ECTS of the course. If the issuing university is not German, provide the official grade scale and equivalence to German grading as well as workload (hours) per credit. Furthermore, hand in the module description for the course and suggest a fitting module group including similar TUM modules for review.

Q: I want Credits from exchange studies abroad to be recognized.

A: You can find all required steps and forms here. Prepare this well in advance prior to your stay abroad!

Q: Can online courses from the Virtuelle Hochschule Bayern (VHB) count towards my degree?

A: The Bavarian Virtual University (VHB) offers a broad range of online courses free of charge to any enrolled student at TUM. Currently the credits can not be counted towards your BMC degree officially.

Q: The BMC study plan mentions a "Clincial Internship". What is this? Do I have to do an internship at a company or hospital?

A: The mandatory Clinical Internship mentioned in the study program regulations denotes the practical course Project Management and Software Development for Medical Applications. BMC does not require you to do a coporate or hopsital internship.

Q: Who can be a supervisor for the Master thesis of BMC students?

A: Any professor at the TUM department of Informatics can supervise your thesis.
